Auburn hair home dye beauty tips: Three tips for choosing a pretty auburn hair dye color. These hair coloring tips are for elderly women in their forties, fifties, sixties, seventies. Avoid shiny bright reds and deep russett red, stay all natural auburn

Celebrity redheads from Lucille Balle to Ann Margret are legendary. Look like a celebrity actress if you dare but choose a nutural shade of auburn to avoid looking older. Natural auburn hair shades are most flattering. Avoid shiny red hair dyes which can result in hair that is too orange and purple. Go for a subtle natural looking red in the middle range of shades as shown in the red hair pictures. The woman second from left looks rather spiffy but she would be more beautiful with a deeper more natural looking red dye. Do auburn!
Famous celebrity Redheads
Auburn hair can look very sexy on older women. But, if the hair dye color is in the least bit off hue it will have an aging effect on the woman. There is no shortage of beautiful and famous celebrities who have at one point or another in their careers had gorgeous red hair! You might know some of these names: Lucille Ball, Maureen O’Hara, Mitzi Gaynor, Molly Ringwald, Julianne Moore, Nicole Kidman, Amy Adams, Alyson Hannigan, Gillian Anderson, Debra Messing, Marcia Cross, Angie Everhart and Lindsay Lohan. I really love the natural hued auburn shades but I must warn that dyeing your hair red can go awry in a heart beat.
The problem with going redhead is that a woman can so easily dye way too light (breaking into the orange Lucille Ball spectrum), too dark (breaking into the purplish Sharon Osborne spectrum), or too shiny (breaking into the trendy Rihanna hair wigs and weaves). Celebrities can get a bit crazy with their hairdos but the best policy is to stick to natural beauty and that means a natural looking hair color. So you don’t wind up with a hair color disaster, be sure to follow these hair color tips prior to going red.
Red hair color photographs
I’ve shown some examples of red hair. For a more senior woman, I would stay in the middle range of reds as shown. You don’t want to go too light (photos at left) or too dark (photos at right) red as both extremes will clash with the skin tone of an older lady. Hair color in shades of natural reds in the mid-range that are not to light, dark or shiny are your best bet. Be sure to do a test streak of any hair color to avoid making a hair color mistake. Try a temporary wash in a red shade first if you are timid to go for real permanent dye. Red hair dye fades fast so if you choose to go red it is best if you can do it yourself, thereby saving frequent trips to the beauty salon and expensive color safe shampoo products. If you consider going red make sure to read these three tips carefully. I am a red hair dye expert and have tried all the shades. Good luck!
Best auburn hair color after forty Tip#1: Avoid shiny high gloss red shades they are too bright
I tried to show the hair color hue spectrum of auburns. Now if you look at the hair dye pictures, I have shown two very pretty women at the far left and at the far right. These are fine if you are a few decades younger as they are, but coupled with aging skin the end colors will not be flattering I guarantee it. If you look at the woman in the blue top I actually think she looks rather pretty considering her age! The problem however is her hair is too light and shiny a shade of red. This is the most common auburn mistake!
Most common auburn hair color mistake
When you put auburn hair dye on top of gray hair or blond hair, the result is going to be very bright. For this reason, women dyeing their hair auburn at home should avoid the really high gloss reds. They don’t work for our age because they turn out too orangish. Had she gone for a flatter shade of red (less bright and less shiny) she would really look good. With red especially, don’t get sucked into the glossy shades like Garnier. If you are in your forties since it won’t complement older skin. Opt for flatter shades of auburn that are rich in hue but have no synthetic shine to them. When it comes to buying red hair color, don’t reach for the blazing red box.
Best auburn hair color after forty Tip#2: Avoid deep shiny russet red hair color shades they are too synthetic
On the other end of the spectrum, deep russet red is also a tricky hair color prospect. Sometimes you can get a nice shade with a temporary wash. Women need to know that deep and dark auburn shades come out really dark, way too dark. A woman with dark brown hair who puts a dark auburn hair color on herself will end up with near black hair and a purple tone to it. Go a few shades lighter on the auburn, even if you are brunette. It will be more natural looking and turn out better.
Best auburn hair color after forty Tip#3: Avoid expensive dyes because red is the fastest fading hair color
Red dyes fades the fastest of all hair colors. Once you find a shade of red you are in love with, you’ll notice how fast it fades. And when it fades, it looks brassy and less rich. That’s why it is important to try and find a good shade of red in a cheap hair color brand. Revlon Color Silk is going to cost you half the money as Garnier or Herbal Essence color. It starts to add up quickly. I recommend trying to find a less expensive brand. To keep hair color fresh, use a box of color every few weeks to replenish the tone. This will keep your auburn shade beautiful. I hope you enjoyed these tips. The lady in the blue looks pretty good but were she to tone down the auburn color to those shown in the middle, she’s look awesome for her age. Don’t be suckered by a glossy shade of red, flatter and plainer shades of auburn always, look better on a mature complexion. Keep it natural.
” Elderly women in the 40’s, 50’s..” hahha.. I am 50 this year and never thought of myself as elderly and can still rock auburn red hair pretty damn well. Nice guide other than that intro of yours!
