Makeup Tips: Makeup Concealer & Foundation, Makeup Brushes, Make Up Color

Simple, Natural, easy Makeup Tips for older women: Wear Concealer, Buy Makeup Brushes & Sponges, Choose Natural Makeup Colors for Foundation, Blush, Bronzer and Eyeshadow

Here are three simple makeup tips for easy application of makeup and a natural looking finished face. Use a good quality makeup concealer. Buy makeup brushes and makeup sponges to apply makeup separately and throw out the ones that come free with the makeup. Choose and use vibrant, natural colors. These three essential makeup tips will make you look like a million bucks. Keep reading and I’ll explain how these simple beauty secrets are going to make you look years younger.

Makeup Tip #1: Simple makeup foundation tip for Women: moisturize and use a good quality concealer

With aging skin expect to have your wrinkles, furrows, brown spots and discolored splotchy spots (because most older women do). The simplest makeup tip is to pre-moisturize your skin before applying your makeup. Moisturize skin with a cream that is specialized to your skin type such as dry skin or oily skin. I have dry skin so I prefer thicker cream. Apply a light coat of the lotion and let it stick for a minute then proceed to makeup.

Let me tell you that using a moisturizer makes all the difference in the world in terms of the result when the makeup goes on. Next step use a good quality concealer. Quality Blemish concealer is the one makeup worth paying for. Not all concealers are the same and some are really good, others awful. Try enough of them to find one that works. I like a thick concealer with good coverage. First moisterize and let skin set. Then, apply concealer with a makeup sponge. If your skin is soft the concealer will go on smooth and your coverage will be great. You won’t need a lot of it. I cover flaws and indented lines then do a once over of my entire face very, very lightly.

As you know many of the makeup foundations come in the liquid bottle form. Essentially, they are trying to give you the moisture in the foundation itself. I personally don’t think it works that well. Super liquid foundation (the kind that comes in the little jars) tends to be runny and smell funny. I like the creamier consistency (the squeeze tubes). If you moisturize with a lotion or cream first, then use a thicker creamy concealer and liquid foundation (but a creamy tube one) I think it turns out better than using a runny/thin consistency foundation. The smooth flaw coverage you get is better and flaw coverage is the key to makeup for aging skin. A mature older woman needs natural looking yet effective flaw coverage.

Makeup Tip #2: Easy makeup tip for Women: Buy inexpensive makeup brushes and use them

Do you know the little sponge tipped makeup applicator brushes that come inside eye shadow compacts? Or how about the little flat makeup brushes that come inside a blush compact? Last but not least, how about those little round makeup sponges that come on top of pressed powder compacts? They are there so that you can apply the pressed powder to your face. News flash! Get rid of them. The sponges, brushes, and powder pads that come free in the makeup you buy are dinky, cheap, imprecise and crummy. LOL! Just throw out the makeup brushes, sponges and applicators that come included free with the makeup and buy these beauty supply items separately.

Now that you know that I think you should junk the freebie makeup applicators what should you do? Does this mean you have to go buy a set of professional quality makeup brushes from MAC? No it does not. Just look for a good set of brushes at the drug store. High end makeup lines like Mac and Sephora don’t even bother to sell brushes with the makeup because they know anyone into makeup enough to buy their expensive makeup products is also going to be willing to spend on the brushes. Ha, I have a beauty secret for you which is that even the most inexpensive cheap makeup application tools bought separately at the drug store are light years better than the ones that come free with the makeup. Discount makeup application supplies are good enough! You can get an entire makeup brush kit at Rite-Aid for less than ten dollars and it will last you a year or longer. Sponges are even cheaper than that.

The good thing about makeup brushes is the length of the brush which makes it easier to direct and hold. They also have a brush end as opposed to a sponge which again is better for precision. A few different brushes for different purposes and colors comes in handy. My favorite is an angle tipped brush which makes eye shadow application neater.

Trust me your makeup will look immensely better when applied with brushes as opposed to sponge tip makeup applicators. As for the round cloth applicators that come with pressed powder, they are just as useless. Buy makeup sponges. The most popular triangle wedge sponges are good. If you can find that same type of sponge material in a bigger sponge (such as a giant round one) it’s even better. I like the sponge material of those makeup wedges but I like a bigger version of it. Whenever I see a variety pack of makeup sponges I buy it because there is usually one or two big size sponges I can use for pressed powder or bronzer. Big huge makeup brushes are fine as well but I prefer a big sponge for application of pressed powders or bronzer because the powder doesn’t make a big mess with a sponge. A big makeup brush has to be tapped out and the powder can still get all over your clothes which is why I seriously like a large sponge over a large makeup brush any day.

To apply makeup I generally recommend large sponges and small precise makeup brushes, and I find them cheap at the drugstores. You can get sponges in variety packs. You can get brushes in inexpensive brush kits. Skip the applicators that come with the makeup as they are usually junk (even if the makeup is expensive, the brushes that come with it should be tossed).

Makeup Tip #3 Natural makeup tip for Women: choose natural makeup colors to look younger

When you buy makeup you should choose make up colors that are neutral but not too bland or beige. They should be strong colors, such as vibrant beige, sand, tan, and brown. Your eye shadow colors, concealer color, foundation colors, blush and/or bronzer colors should all be in rich earth tones hues. I have two makeup organizers. I have a mini drawer organizer with all of my mainstay makeup in it. All the colors are natural but strong. I keep the rest of my makeup in a tall Tupperware drawer organizer which you can buy for less from a store like Target or the Container Shop. I rarely ever use my colored makeup because it doesn’t make me look youthful as I am in my late forties.

The thing with older women’s skin and face is that it looks good in natural colors. But many women misinterpret this point of needing natural makeup and choose colors that are neutral but too bland and light beige or pale pink. Those are horrible color choices in fact. You need neutral colors but they should be richer in tone than the pales ones. Why? Because the pale barely there makeups really don’t add life to you face. You’ll look better than you would with nothing at all, but you want to have enough there to be able to do what you should do which is to bring out your best features and detract from your flaws. For that you need the earth tones. If you get a pale, pale beige eye shadow color it will do little to highlight your eyes and detract from under eye wrinkles and bags. If you get a pale pink blush, you’ll be high lighting your crows feet instead of creating an overall sun kissed glow to your face that detracts from the smile wrinkles. Frosty pastel lipsticks draw attention to aging lips. That is why sticking to an earth tone color spectrum is so important.

So, how do you pick the right colors? Go for earth tones, and look for colors with no glimmer, sparkle, shine or frosting added. Makeup with frosty sparkles in it is awful for a mature face and makes wrinkles stand out! I prefer drugstore makeup brands such as Wet n Wild, Physicians Formula, Neutrogena and Revlon, and a high end concealer like NW from Mac thrown in. Certain makeup items like concealer and eyeliner are worth paying more for. One good thing about expensive makeup like Mac, Laura Mercier, Lancome, Dior, Lauren Hutton, Bare Minerals, etc, is that they select the colors for mature women and they do a good job of it. The secret is that once you figure out the colors for yourself, you become more capable of finding cheaper alternatives (that are close matches) when your finances force you to.

If you are bad with makeup color, it can be worth it to buy an expensive good color makeup from a high end cosmetic brand. When the pricey makeup runs out/gets low, you bring it with you to the drugstore and look for a very close match in an inexpensive makeup brand to replace it with. That way you benefit from the color choices of the best cosmetic make up brands while saving money by matching the color of the expensive makeup to a cheap makeup alternative. Instead of replacing an expensive makeup, buy the discount item for the long run replacement. If you like a Dior eyeshadow try to match the exact color to a cheaper brand (take the eyeshadow to the drug store with you) and get the closest discount match shadow next time.

So remember these three fundamental makeup tips. Moisturize your skin before you apply the makeup. Use a high quality concealer to cover flaws. Apply makeup with brushes and sponges you buy separately for precision. Finally, choose makeup colors for your foundation, eye shadow, blush, bronzer and lipstick in natural but vibrant earth tone hues. You want the makeup to look natural but bring life to your face and features. As boring as neutral colors are, they really work best for anti-aging purposes. Whether you are a blonde, brunette or redhead, these makeup tips are universal for women. I hope you enjoyed these simple tips for the best makeup application of your mature face.
