None of us want to get older however there is not much we can do about the passage of time. There are tricks however that can counteract your aging and make you look your youngest. If you continue to improve your health, figure, style and makeup, you can actually reverse time to a certain extent. The key is to continue to improve how you look. You should always be paying attention to your appearance and trying different things to improve on it.

Anti-Aging Makeup

In this example I am showing how simple makeup steps can drastically improve how you look. The above photograph illustrates a common makeup mistake that I see all the time on women. I even see this on women on television shows and wonder to myself what the makeup artist for the show was thinking.  The mistake is what I call heavy lips.

Creating the right facial balance with Make Up

“Heavy lips” means that there is not enough makeup accenting the eyes and eyebrow area but there is lipstick on the women. What this does is fade out the whole eye area.  If you wear colorful lipstick with little or no eye makeup, attention is dragged down to the mouth for a rather unpleasant result which is that the woman looks older than she is. It is a downward focus that has an aging effect on a mature woman. In reality the exact opposite is the preferred look. The eye area of a mature woman should draw the attention and the lips should not be over taking the eyes. On the right hand side of the picture you can see an improvement of the look because there is counter balancing makeup on the eyes and a penciled in eyebrow to counteract the strong lipstick.

Mascara is a must even if the application is light because even a little bit of mascara accentuates your eyes perfectly. This is the exact reason why models and celebrities wear false eyelashes for red carpet events and magazine photo shoots. It brings the eyes to the forefront. Now, granted, you aren’t likely to wear false eyelashes in day to day life. But trust me that celebrities on the red carpet and in magazines are often wearing them. If you look closely you can see. At least if you wear some mascara you are simulating the desired effect of accentuating your eyes in the same way that false eyelashes accentuate movie star’s eyes. Even if you do not like wearing makeup, I promise you that a hint of mascara is something you should consider.

Remember when you apply your makeup to look not only at the part of your face where you are applying it. You have to look at the whole picture and double check in the mirror if the entire effect is in balance. I would say that the overall balance of your makeup is far more important than, for example, the brand of makeup that you buy. You could have the most expensive makeup from Sephora on you but if it is done wrong you will not look good. On the other hand, you could have the least expensive makeup from Walmart like Wet n Wild, and it could look great because you got the balance perfect. By the way, I actually use Wet n Wild makeup because I can afford it.  Sephora might be great makeup but it is too expensive for my bank account.  I wish I could afford Sephora but it does not stop me from looking pretty.  You can see the difference the right makeup balance makes very clearly in these two photos. The one on the right is a drastic improvement and takes my looks from plain to perfect, considering my age.

The moral to the story is that if you throw some lipstick onto an unmade up face, thinking that you’re freshening up, you may actually be doing yourself more harm than good. Pay attention to the overall harmony of your look, not just the part of your face that you are making up.
