Minerals like Leeza Gibbons mineral makeup, bare essentials mineral makeup, bare minerals, sheer mineral makeup and glo minerals makeup are increasingly popular. I prefer the liquid foundation to powder mineral foundations. Makeup made from true minerals may not really be better for your skin than conventional makeup however if the colors are beautiful then it may be worth buying. If you can’t afford the Leeza Gibbons celebrity minerals shop the drugstore for discount mineral makeup and only buy if the colors are pretty on your skin or if you have sensitive skin and can’t tolerate liquid foundation (beauty advice!)

Mineral Makeup – Are mineral makeup like Bare Essentials and Sheer Cover worth the price?
Over the last ten years so called bare minerals make ups have gained popularity as many women find that these natural and organic make up products benefit their skin instead of just covering the perfections with regular (chemically manufactured) makeup. Celebrities like Melissa Gilbert and Leeza Gibbons are selling organic based mineral makeup products on the television makeup infomercials. Colorescience, Jane Iredals, L’Oreal and Larenim are the high end, specialty natural mineral makeup brands. These mineral make-ups claim to benefit the skin by protecting the skin from pollutants, the sun’s damaging UV rays, while at the same time allowing skin to breath without needing continuous reapplication during the day. True mineral makeup supposedly is made from 100% minerals that are non-drying, non-irritating and non-toxic to the skin. Many mineral makeup brands claim to have no talc, oils, chemicals, dyes and additives that regular makeup does. There are quite a few variants of mineral available now even at the local drugstore and Wal-Mart, such as L’Oreal Bare Naturale Mineral Makeup (foundation) and Neutrogena Mineral Sheers.
I prefer cream concealer, liquid makeup, and pressed powder to mineral powder makeup
I know that some women find mineral makeup to be beneficial. I personally however, am not a big fan of mineral makeup, particularly if it is more expensive than it’s manufactured counterpart. Here is my reason why. I think mature women look good with a light coat of cream concealer followed by liquid foundation. In my opinion, a light base of concealer/liquid foundation makes the skin look dewey, more uniform, and more youthful. Mineral makeup cannot, in my opinion, replace the need for concealer and light liquid foundation on a mature face. Over that base, goes the powder foundation (either loose or compact) to enhance the skins color tone. So even if I was going to use mineral loose powder, I would be putting it on over a concealer/liquid foundation base. Therefore, in my case the mineral makeup would be going on over a light coat of makeup already on my skin. Therefore, since my skin already is covered, whatever supposed benefits the mineral makeup has is pretty much moot. It’s going on over moisterizer, concealer and light foundation and in essence not coming into direct contact with my skin.
Some women that cannot wear concealer and liquid foundation because of sensitive issues may find that mineral makeup lets their skin breathe better. For this type of women it may be a good choice. However I should add that I have watched Leeza Gibbons in that Sheer Cover mineral makeup informercial many a time. And they sell, along with the powder mineral foundation, concealer. So, even companies that manufactor mineral powder makeup are trying to sell you cream concealer at the very same time. Go figure!
Try Physician’s Formula Mineral Makeup to see if mineral cosmetics are for you
If you want to try out and compare mineral makeup brands, you can find them at the drug stores, department stores, and on specialty TV shows like QVC and infomercials. A few of the ones to check out include Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Makeup, Neutrogena Mineral Sheers, Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics, Loreal Bare Naturale Mineral Makeup, Avon Mineral Makeup, Bare Minerals (Bare Escentuals), Sheer Cover Mineral Makeup, Simple Karen Pure Minerals and and Jane Iredale Mineral Makeup. The brands that are going to be most cost effective obviously are the ones you can get at the drugstore, though if you want to get technical about it I could predict that the cheaper the makeup the more the additives it likely has in it. I think Physicians Formula is a good, inexpensive brand of makeup and might be a good place to start if you want to try mineral makeup. You can expect to pay two, three or easily more times as much for higher end specialty mineral powder makeup verses the cheap synthetic comparables.
My overall take on mineral makeup is that if you find a color that works great on you, and the mineral makeup costs no more than regular comparative makeup, then there is no problem in using it. As far as paying significantly more money for mineral versions of makeup, I wouldn’t bother to spend substantially more money for mineral makeup (verses regular) unless I had problem skin and swore by the benefits of it. Mineral makeups claim to rid you of the “caked-on” look of liquid/cream foundation. But the “caked-on” look is caused by putting too much makeup on in general and then not blending it well, not because regular makeup is inherently bad like mineral makeups claim. In fact, some of the tried and true makeup brands have been tested and sold for decades upon decades. Millions of people use Max Factor, Revlon and Cover Girl “manufactured” makeup with few ill effects (and they save money too).
Some dermatologists question the benefits of mineral makeup and mineral cosmetics altogether
Just so I am covering all the bases here, I should say that while mostly you hear the benefits of mineral makeup touted on TV, some skin experts flat out don’t like the stuff! For example, I have read on yahoo health before that microscopic gold particles in mineral makeup can scratch the skin and cause allergic reactions, particularly to gold. I would add to that I really don’t believe there is any human way that a powder containing sunscreen is going to be as effective on your skin as a cream. I personally would not substitute mineral makeup with SPF for sunscreen – no way. Finally, I have yet to see any scientific proof that mineral makeup is better than manufactured makeup. If you already use a mineral makeup product and are hooked on the color and consistency of it, there is likely no problem in sticking with what already works for you. For the rest of us, I don’t think it really matters and I personally don’t want to spend more than I have to just to get organic ingredients.
Mineral foundation powder make up is messy. I only use it for a last minute bronzing. Pressed powder is cleaner.
One last but not least point is that any kind of powder is messy. It requires a large makeup brush to dust on and even if you tap the brush it can still sprinkle powder on your clothes and makeup counter and make a mess. Some powder containers have little vent holes that keep the makeup from spilling but when you shake more powder up it can still make a dusty mess. I wouldn’t want to have to use a lot of powder (mineral or not). I use a concealer, light liquid foundation, and then a pressed powder with a large round makeup sponge that makes zero mess. I do keep a bronzing powder makeup in my arsenal and if I look in the mirror after my makeup is all done and still look on the pale side, I use a little bit of the powder bronzer. The last powder bronzer I had was not mineral based and I got it from Target I think, the one I currently have is a generic Talc Free Mineral Wear Bronzer that my daughter bought at Rite Aid and never used (she like me decided she liked pressed powder more), now I use it sometimes for last minute color. As long as the bronzing color is nice, either mineral or non-mineral bronzing powder is fine for me. I didn’t notice a quality difference between the mineral verses non mineral bronzing powder. I only use it to add a last minute dash of overall color to my makeup application if I notice that I need it.

Should women pay more for natural organic mineral makeup as opposed to man-made cosmetics - Is all natural mineral makeup worth it? Only if the color is pure perfection on you!
