Before you put on that concealer and makeup, moisturize your facial skin
Women over forty have unique skin care needs because of the aging process. Not only do older women tend to have dryer skin, they also have more blemishes, dark circles and fine facial wrinkles. The desire is to have smooth soft skin and light natural looking makeup. Yet at the same time mature skin really needs some serious flaw coverage with a quality concealer and foundation. So how do you get natural looking makeup that actually covers your aging flaws? Believe it or not a very big cosmetic trick is to moisturize skin before applying the makeup. It makes the makeup look way better.
Older women can truly benefit from a thicker opaque cream concealer to cover flaws and blemishes. The catch however, is that thicker cream concealers can look caked on and obvious since cream concealers just aren’t as emollient as their liquid concealer counterparts. Therefore, it is essential to moisturize the face before applying an opaque cream concealer! Furthermore, your makeup in general including foundation, is always going to glide on, adhere better and look smoother if your face is soft prior to the application. Moisturizer before makeup is truly essential for the older woman.
Apply moisturizer onto face, blend into skin and let set to prime facial skin for your makeup application
After you wash, cleanse and tone your face and hands, you are almost ready for makeup. But you mustn’t skip this very important step which is to moisturize. Moisturizer acts as a fixative and primer for the face makeup. The best way to minimize the appearance of fine wrinkles and lines is to moisturize prior to applying makeup. This will let the makeup glide on smoother and it won’t cake. It’s the absolute key to younger looking skin.
You can use a more expensive moisturizing eye or facial cream if you want to. Just make sure the cream is not runny or overly liquid. You want a thicker cream with a hint of stick to it. Blend cream in gently all over your face including around the eyes. Your skin should feel smooth and soft with a little hint of adherence or stickiness to it. If your moisturizer is too runny and fluid it is going to make your face too greasy and the makeup will slip and run off rather than stay put. If your moisturizer is too heavy, it’s going to create too much of a mask and the makeup is going to look goopy and unnatural.
What I use is a little dollop of thicker body butter cream such as The Body Shop body butter or Tree Hut body butter that comes in a pot container. It’s inexpensive and works great as a makeup primer. In the hot weather, I use Sun Screen cream such as Banana Boat instead of the body butter. Take a little dollop and work it in into your facial skin.
Soft primed facial skin leads to natural looking makeup
Your face should feel soft with a little trace of the cream on it. Let it sit for a few seconds before applying concealer then makeup. This gives you a primed face and the makeup is going to look more natural and smooth when you apply it. It’s critical for an older woman because smooth and natural makeup is what diminishes the look of our fine facial lines, dark circles under eyes and wrinkles.
Women just don’t realize how important it is to moisturize your face with cream and let it set for at least a few seconds prior to applying makeup. Your facial skin should feel soft and primed before you ever do your makeup. If your skin feels too dry or too greasy, the makeup will never look as good once it’s on. So don’t forget this crucial first step to natural looking anti aging makeup. Find the perfect pre-makeup moisturizer to get your skin soft, adherent and ready to go. If you follow this simple tip you will need less makeup overall. Your makeup will look smooth, natural and beautiful once it’s applied to your skin.
Some times its the very simple steps that women miss that make them look less than their best. If you want flawless looking skin over forty be sure to find the right pre-makeup moisturizer for your skin type. If your makeup looks flakey or cakey when it’s going on, the result is going to age you. Make sure your skin is ready before you apply it. If makeup is still too dry looking consider using light in texture cream based cosmetics as well.
