The biggest free fashion tip for women: Solid color clothes in vibrant natural hues are universally flattering on women. The apparel should showcase your beautiful face, makeup and hair. Don’t buy clothes that take over, distract, and drown you in patterns. You can look like a celebrity or supermodel by developing your own style and dressing to enhance your own beauty
I love clothes however I really don’t have money to spend on them. Most everything I wear is incredibly old due to the fact that I don’t shop much. With the exception of my four pregnancies, I’ve stayed pretty much the same size over the years and therefore don’t have the need to throw clothes out because of fit. The more I take photographs, the more I understand what looks attactive on a woman. Even if your clothes are old, you still want to look good in them. Some of the things hanging in my closet are rather humorous and quite out of style. But they are great for demonstrating some serious do’s and don’ts!
Best clothing colors for women’s clothing are natural earth and jewel tones
Apparel color is really important – one of the most important determinents in how you look. I am introducing my new game called … clothing Color Wars! Being that I don’t shop much (no money for that), I have a wide variety of old clothes in my closet. This includes everything from inappropriate teenager stuff, to jeans I’ve owned for decades. I’ve self-taught myself how to look good and am always trying to improve and learn what looks better. In Color Wars, I will try on different outfits and color different outfits in a photo editing program, in order to let my readers see and compare notes on what looks best. Comments and opinions are welcome. The color of your clothes is way more important and instrumental in your look than most women even realize.
I’ve read theories that warm complexion women (with darker skin and/or hair) look best in red, peach, orange, yellow, brown, and olive green. And that cool complexion women (like blondes with fair skin) look best in pink, blue, teal, turquoise, purple, and mint green. Warm complexion women are supposed to wear gold and cool complexion women are supposed to wear silver. I really see little rythme or reason to these theories.
The color complexion theory is basically saying warm complexions look best in earthy tones and cool complexions look better in more bright tones. I don’t buy into the complexion theories for colors, or that women with different complexions look better or worse in certain colors. I’ve seen a tan brunette woman look incredible in a bright dazzling blue dress. It’s not so much about which color as it is about avoiding multiple clashing colors. I also like earthy colors on all women regardless of their complexion.
I think the best colors for women in general are natural based. The best colors for women include white, tan, black and earthy jewel tones like bronze, copper, silver, maroon, deep blue, darker green. Brighter jewel tones are also flattering as they have a deep hue to them and I like them way more than pale pastels which fade the woman out. However anything bright should be coupled with plainer accompanying clothes. Multiple bright colors going simultaneously are a no-no. One dazzling color can be fine.
The distraction caused by trendy loud pattern clothes. Trendy pattern clothes are mature style “don’ts”
Loud patterns create too much of a distraction from the woman wearing the clothes. In this picture, I grabbed an old zebra T-shirt from a different era (heavy metal?). Now, I can see this shirt getting made a spectacle of on that show “What not to Wear” on cable. I agree that it is very heavy metal and outdated. My only excuse for wearing it is that I was going to a Halloween pumpkin patch and wanted to look festive. That’s my story and I am sticking with it. By the way, don’t wear festive holiday clothes as it is … tacky!
As for my take on the images, the zebra top does add a dazzling attraction to the image and it is eye catching. I took the photo into an editor and used a paint tool on it to then color the shirt out to more neutral color choices, also shown in the image above. If I look closely at the photos, I would have to say that I look more like a “model” in the brown photo. With less noise, the focus is more on the beauty of the woman (when the colors are solid) as opposed to the obnoxious shirt (which draws the attention away from the woman).
My earthy and jewel tone color theory. Neutral solid colors flatter your body shape and limit distraction. Solids also make you look more slender.
My basic theory then is that neutral colors are the most flattering on all skin types, regardless of skin coloring. And that colors are best in jewel tones with a vibrant hue to them. Finally, anything bright should be coupled with more neutral colors as multiple colors going simultaneously creates clash and not harmony. Solids are safer than patterns and they let the women be showcased rather than the clothes. I really do think that a woman is always going to look the most beautiful in something simpler and flattering. Solid colors just look extremely attractive on older women.
I hate to confess that I like all of the above photographs because it happens to be a good picture of me! I make no apology to the host and hostess of the television show “What not to Wear”.
